Leftism Polarizes Society And Gives Rise To Inevitable Totalitarianism

One way you can tell that our society is doomed is that people of the upper half of socioeconomic position are not conversant with the classics, such as Plato’s Republic. It is as if history has literally been deleted because no one is familiar with it, and who has time between work, television and shopping to read some musty old books?

But if the herd had read Plato, and understood it, which most are biologically limited from doing, they would have realized that Crowdism is the father of Leftism, and Crowdism takes on many faces in its mission to wreck civilization. Leftism is just one of those masks, albeit the one closest to the actual idea of Crowdism, which is a human social impulse more than anything else.

As a result, while our current political environment rewards those who point fingers at the obscure, the real developments of our time are entirely linear results of our original decision to “go egalitarian” during The Enlightenment™ and the French Revolution. This includes the rise of the managerial state:

The thesis of this essay is that the theory of the managerial elite explains the present transatlantic social and political crisis. Following World War II, the democracies of the United States and Europe, along with Japan—determined to avoid a return to depression and committed to undercutting communist anti-capitalist propaganda—adopted variants of cross-class settlements, brokered by national governments between national managerial elites and national labor. Following the Cold War, the global business revolution shattered these social compacts. Through the empowerment of multinational corporations and the creation of transnational supply chains, managerial elites disempowered national labor and national governments and transferred political power from national legislatures to executive agencies, transnational bureaucracies, and treaty organizations. Freed from older constraints, the managerial minorities of Western nations have predictably run amok, using their near-monopoly of power and influence in all sectors—private, public, and nonprofit—to enact policies that advantage their members to the detriment of their fellow citizens.

Currently the managerial revolt is de rigueur as a talking point for people who are looking for something to blame for our civilization collapse. Like “late stage capitalism” and other tropes, this is designed to cast the blame away from the real culprit, which is egalitarianism.

Consider the egalitarian society. Every institution must be made egalitarian, but as this happens, they fail. These mini-collapses occur from the outer periphery toward the core of society, much like circulation failing in a dying patient. As the outer institutions fail, the inner institutions — government, education, lobbyists and media — must become more powerful to pick up the slack.

Before the Great Depression, we could count on our markets to be relatively stable because investment was kept within an informal WASP aristocracy who managed to avoid reckless, trend-oriented investing. After the First World War, an America flush with wealth started bumping people from lower castes to higher classes through the magic of “new money.”

At the same time, the company man was born as unions and socialist thought changed the concept of labor itself. The goal was no longer to own your own business, but to have a job that paid the right amount of benefits, and then you were living the good life. It was a prole party! And then it all came crashing down, as it turns out that the new investors were more reckless than the old.

What does egalitarianism do, admit that its grand plans are not working out so well? Not at all — it doubles down — and so instead of blaming itself, it blames capitalism and offers its solution… more Leftism! Coincidentally, this requires stronger inner institutions, and so a whole layer of charities and independent businesses die out.

Good, think those who are in control. This means people have fewer options and so they will have to do what we want them to do. This is the essence of control; it is the ego trying to master the world, and since it has no positive goal but has a negative goal, namely not wanting to feel powerless, it pursues power for its own end.

The government of the 1930s worked well-ish up through the second world war, but then it became clear that wartime mobilization would be required to fight the Cold War, so the inner institutions agreed on a hybrid of classic American individualism with socialist individualism, and from this came the Frankfurt School, Cultural Marxism and all the other Communism lite variants we know today as “normal.”

When the Soviet Union fell, the inner organizations wanted a way to achieve even more power, so they created the administrative state, a time of unelected lawmaking, and expanded internationally as a means to create a world economic which would force everyone to obey. The “managerial” side of this is that instead of working through outer institutions, governments and their allies now worked directly through stronger central institutions.

At this point, to an observer entirely free of bias, the United States and Europe resemble a hybrid of the systems of the combatants of the last World War. They retain some of their original informal order, which relied on outer institutions including many entirely free of government influence, but they have adopted socialist subsidy systems and a soft totalitarian order.

They have gone down this path because of the wrecking ball of egalitarianism. First, it waged class warfare, and destroyed social order. Then it attacked the family, and later assaulted the notion of a national identity or ethnic component. After that it assaulted heritage and values. Each of these strengthened inner institutions like government and media at the expense of outer institutions.

What this process resembles is an infection more than anything else. The mental virus of ideology began as something to be tolerated, one option for a philosophy. Then it became a trend, where all the hip kids who were united in their dislike of society believed it. As it became popular, finally it became official dogma, and now anyone who deviates will be punished.

The more popular the mental virus has become, the more it has strengthened its hold over the population, and thus we have transitioned from a semi-libertarian state to one that is wholly ideological, with globalism, diversity, feminism, civil rights and social justice as natural extensions of the egalitarian idea to other races, sexes and social classes.

Ideology is a morality. It gains its power by seeming to be “universal,” or accessible to all people. This gives it its messianic character, in that if the ideology is the moral right, it must be spread through propaganda and social pressure to others, so that everyone is doing right.

Its origin in egalitarianism requires this. The original idea of egalitarianism was a seizure of power from the natural leaders of society and transferring it to the mob, a group composed of both the very poor and the fairly well-off who wanted fewer obstacles to their businesses (obstacles that, in retrospect, were a good idea).

The mental virus demands that everyone be brainwashed and mentally controlled by the ideology so that no competing ideals can exist. To those infected with ideology, it is the one right way, and anything but it is therefore evil and must be smashed so that the good ideology can persist. This leads to a raging mob drugged on moral superiority:

With the aid of the media and the Democratic Party, the institutions of the republic are crippled, the levers of power having been seized not by the elected but by the unelected bureaucratic state — from ideologues at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to the partisans and paranoid who inhabit our intelligence community.

…This is not the words of a dutiful civil servant but of a partisan tyrant who would see his own view, his own agenda, and his own lens of politics dominate over that of the elected government of the United States. In their minds they are but a guardian of the people, albeit one that must stand up to and ultimately negate the will of that very same people.

…In all of this, the media has abandoned their role as watchdogs with a healthy dose of skepticism and become the propaganda arm of the unelected administrative state, complicit in and even cheering on the actions that have superseded the will of the people.

This is what ideological takeover looks like. We are dealing with a mental virus, not an “it” as a single actor. Government becomes the method of the mental virus just like peaceful protest was fifty years ago. For this virus, everything is a means to the end of the advancement of the virus and no logical consistency is needed.

Now we have a decentralized ideological state. Why have one Party in Moscow when you can have millions of unofficial KGB officers working at every level of society? They receive their orders from the media, then implement the fad or trend of the week, and they inform on those who do not go along.

This is the essence of Crowdism: whatever pleases the herd to believe must be enforced on everyone else, or it might seem weak. This creates a fanatical audience of zealots who derive meaning in life from advancing the justification for their failures in life. This means they must crush all dissent in order to feel good about themselves.

At the end point of such a virus, and we are at peak egalitarianism now, life in society becomes binary. You either go along with the herd and accept the mental virus, or you resist and become an outsider. People think that there are three options — mental virus, opposition to mental virus, and agnostic tolerance of both of those — but really, there is only compliance or apostasy:

Tron Guy took his concerns to the board of Penguicon and suggested adding conservative panels to balance out the left-wing ones. The board told him they did not want to add any panels that would draw controversy.

…When asked over the phone if he is alt right, Tron Guy laughed, describing his political views as “movement conservative with a hint of libertarianism.”

“I am specifically not alt right,” he said. “I don’t believe in white supremacy or the patriarchy. I have no problems with true equality of opportunity, but social justice is a code word for equality of outcome.”

Tron Guy takes a classic tolerance approach. He thinks that by endorsing acceptance of all views, he can avoid joining the mental virus and simultaneously not be its enemy. But that is not how a mental virus works. You are either in the gang, or you are its enemy. You either join the cult, or you are a heretic. You either pay union dues or you are a scab.

There is no way out of this death spiral. It is clear that in 1968 the mental virus took over, and in the 1990s it gained full power, and we are now seeing the results of that with the election of Barack Obama and the consequent emboldening of a new generation of zealots. We either reject the mental virus by rejecting the idea of equality, or it consumes us.

Western Europeans Want To Clean House

Sunday afternoons are the hardest time of the week to know what to do with oneself. The big activity of the weekend is over, pretty much everyone is either napping or watching old movies on Netflix, and so one finds oneself casting around for a book, and willing to take some chances on what is chosen.

For such reasons, I found myself nose-deep in The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo. This book was trendy some time ago and someone bought a copy that ended up near my desk in a heap of stuff no one knows that to do with.

Tidying Up is one of those books that takes a simple idea and spins it into many more words than it needs, but does so with such personality that the pages seem to read themselves. The basic thesis is that people are miserable in part because their homes are cluttered with stuff that has no actual utility, which both gets underfoot and creates a sense of confused mission in life.

Kondo offers simple advice through a series of principles about how to know what to remove and how to value what you keep. As I read, my mind kept returning to three major problems in the West that all of us wish would clean themselves up:

  1. Immigration. “Diversity is our strength” is the modern Wests’s equivalent of “the Party is always right.” Unless race riots, crime, social distrust, political marginalization of the majority and constant low-level ethnic conflict are strength, diversity has been a failure, just like it is everywhere else it is tried. Immigration — both legal and illegal — is swelling the West with third world peoples who are biologically different and so cannot integrate, seem to want to conquer us, and are not bringing us any greater joys than ethnic restaurants. And yet, no one seems to know what to do.
  2. Sociopaths. Another intractable problem is the presence of sociopaths among us. These occur both at the low level, with constant petty and violent crime, and at the high level, where we are ruled by people like John McCain and Nancy Pelosi. If the organized crime style tactics of the Clintons and Obamas did not appall you, there is the nation left in debt while all of its policies failed. Somehow, we have become cattle, and the sociopaths instinctively know how to manipulate and outwit us, so we live in an upside-down world where stupidity, insanity and cowardice always win, and anything sensible or wise is burned at the stake.
  3. Mental viruses. In the midst of the tropes, memes and fads it is clear that our society has no center or purpose and therefore succumbs to whatever plausible-sounding ideas come along, and along the group soon moves on to something else, these ideas have taken up residence and we cannot get rid of them. There are so many taboos, assumptions and precedents now that are both illogical and carved in stone that every new idea is crippled by its need to be backward-compatible with them.

Kondo presents what she calls the KonMari method of “tidying,” or removing junk and putting everything else in a place that is both accessible and useful. This makes the house have an inner flow that is comforting to people, ends distractions and allows them to keep their focus on their goals and day-to-day purpose in existing.

Her statements doubly apply to the three major problem areas in the West. For example:

In essence, tidying ought to be the act of restoring balance among people their possessions and the house they live in.

Replace “house” with country. We have too many possessions; we are drowning in stuff just as we are in information overload. More importantly, we need balance. Every part has to has its place, and we need only what is necessary. The result should be pleasing to the eye and easy to use, not ugly and awkward like… well, like it is now.

Get rid of those people that no longer spark joy. Make your parting a ceremony to launch them on a new journey. Celebrate this occasion with them. I truly believe that our possessions are even happier and more vibrant when we let them go than when we first get them.

In this hilarious spin on intentionality, she imparts agency and emotions to our possessions. Why not extend that to people? Those among us who do not belong — sociopaths, Leftists and other ethnic groups — need to go home. They have a place, but it is not here. They will be happier when we let them go and they can pursue their actual destiny instead of trying to share ours.

I, however, am very conscious of the important role the house plays because whenever I visit a client’s home I can feel how much it cherishes its inhabitants. It is always there, waiting for my clients to return and standing ready to shelter and protect them. No matter how exhausted they are after a long day’s work, it is there to refresh and heal them.

Our nations are houses. They are there to shelter and protect us. They refresh and heal us as we go through life. If we do not tidy them up, they cannot serve this function, and we will not feel like cherished inhabitants but alienated outsiders. People who do not feel at home tend to act out against whatever is sheltering them, furthering social decay.

You won’t die if your house isn’t tidy and there are many people who really don’t care if they can’t put their house in order. Such people, however, would never pick up this book.

Some groups need more order and balance than others. Western Europeans are one such group: we care very much about tidiness, both intellectually and in daily life, but because not everyone shares this vision, we are afraid to do it for ourselves. When we overcome egalitarianism, however, we realize that our path requires we do this, and others are incompatible with it.

The true purpose of tidying is, I believe, to live in the most natural state possible. Don’t you think it is unnatural for us to possess things that don’t bring us joy or things that we don’t really need? I believe that owning only what we love and what we need is the most natural condition.

“Natural” foods and products have been a mania in our society for decades. Maybe what we need is not natural objects, but a natural order to life? We can only own what we love, which is our people and culture, and everything else must be relocated. That includes the merely incompatible like other races, and the outright harmful like sociopaths and Leftists.

By putting our house in order, we can live in our natural state. We choose those things that bring us joy and cherish what is truly precious in our lives. Nothing can bring greater happiness than to be able to do something as simple and natural as this. If this is good fortune, then I am convinced that putting our house in order is the best way to achieve it.

Our only power in life is choice. We can choose the life that gives us joy, but to do this, we must exclude everything else. We will not have a sense of existential well-being until we put our housesnations in order, and to do that, we must “tidy up” and remove the things that do not belong and send them to their destinies elsewhere.

If you are going to put your house in order, do it now.

There is no better time than the present, since the alternative is misery, and we will not know how miserable we were until we experience the alternative. So perhaps, we should be promoting the idea of tidying our countries. Who would have thought that a nice Japanese lady could drop so many red pills?

We can remove those bad ideas from our thinking because they are untidy. They do not reflect balance and a peace of mind, or a house designed for its inhabitants. We can send the sociopaths away. Why keep them, even in prison? They belong else. Similarly, those of other tribes need to arrive at their home countries full of new ideas to help their own peoples.

It just goes to show you that those who have examined/accept reality closely often share similar insights, and that metaphors are often more real than trying to tackle problems literally. Our house is a mess and we are uncomfortable as a result, and because of that, we view life through a negative lens. Let us cheerfully accept what we must do, and tidy up the West.

Our Pretense Prohibits Noticing That Desegregation Was A Disaster

Groups operate by unity and exclusion of outsiders. This is applied through rituals where a belief of the tribe is ritually challenged and then affirmed; we see this pattern in adventure movies, mystery novels and politics. The point is for everyone in the tribe to feel a sense of unity in beating back the enemy and affirming what they hold in common.

In America, however, what we have in common is nearly nothing since we left our Western European roots, and so our rituals are entirely political, such as the recurring two minutes hate against those who deny equality:

The woman was referring to Maurice’s Piggie Park, a small chain of barbecue restaurants, established in West Columbia, South Carolina, in 1953. The original restaurant occupies a barnlike building on a busy intersection and is presided over by a regionally famous electric marquee that features the boast “world’s best bar-b-q,” along with a grinning piglet named Little Joe. The Piggie Park is important in the history of barbecue, which is more or less the history of America. One reason is that its founder, Maurice Bessinger, popularized the yellow, mustard-based sauce that typifies the barbecue of South Carolina’s Midlands area. Another is that Bessinger was a white supremacist who, in 1968, went to the Supreme Court in an unsuccessful fight against desegregation, and, in 1974, ran a losing gubernatorial campaign, wearing a white suit and riding a white horse.

In 2000, when the Confederate flag was removed from the South Carolina statehouse dome, Bessinger raised Confederate flags over all his restaurants. (By then, there were nine.) A king-sheet-size version went up over the West Columbia location, where he had long distributed tracts alleging, for example, that “African slaves blessed the Lord for allowing them to be enslaved and sent to America.”

If we live in a free society, what is the problem with this? Outside of the law, which obviously should tolerate it, we should ask ourselves why we are such pretentious primates that we cannot simply accept the difference of opinion, and eat there much as we eat at any other restaurant, knowing that some of the proprietor’s beliefs are alien and threatening to us.

The answer is that the panic here has nothing to do with what the fellow believes, and everything to do with people demonstrating obedience to the group. This outrage is a conversation point that allows them to affirm to everyone else how they are in fact totally obedient to the idea of equality; race is the symbol, class warfare — removal of hierarchy — is the goal that white people actually have.

And so we roll on, ignoring the fact that we are divided. We deny the obvious reality that people are different in ability and need different roles. We use the symbol of “racism” to show how we would never agree with those evil people who think that people are different, or that most people might in fact be feckless little monkeys who are exclusively self-interested.

This “virtue signaling” or “pathological altruism” is designed to offer oneself to the group as a sacrifice, in exchange for the support of the group. This is the nature of Control: the group accepts those who flatter it, instead of choosing people based on their contributions in reality. Its only goal is to make everyone obey its vision of reality, which needs obedience because it denies reality.

Our mental virus of denial serves to keep us from noticing that desegregation was a disaster for both whites and blacks, depriving each of a strong identity in their own community. It also keeps us from looking deeper to see that diversity, including slavery, is a disaster because it creates a society without a uniform standard toward which all can strive, and feel rewarded for partially attaining.

We can get out of this loop if we want, but first it requires that we view free speech as more than a rule. We need to see it is a method of living. In a sane society, people are not destroyed for their opinions, and we recognize that others always differ with us on key issues, but we can still eat their barbecue, enjoy their company and not dehumanize them like Communists do to all dissidents.

Control Makes People Broken

As societies mature, they need methods of holding people together so they can cooperate toward goals, which express purpose and values in tangible form. They have lost their original goal, which is to have civilization in the first place, because they have achieved it.

At this point, the growing civilization faces a more difficult task than ever before: it must unify its citizens toward purpose, including self-discipline to uphold moral standards, without a pressing threat. It is easy to unite people when famine or invaders threaten, but otherwise, people default to the Simian “everybody do whatever they want to.”

The only way known to make this work, throughout all of history, is to make citizenship contingent upon people being useful and understanding the purpose.

Since this is not only true but obvious, a movement immediately forms in every society like mold on cheese. This is compromised of individuals, acting in their own self-interest, who desire to be included despite lack of contribution or purpose, and they form a collective to use peer pressure to enforce their inclusion under the guise of universal inclusion.

This usually follows a diversity event, or interaction with other cultures such that sufficiently different people are included in the society. Once the people are markedly different, one can no longer point to the values of that civilization as absolute, but most widen values so that all can be included. At that point, the values seem arbitrary and people agitate against them because they secretly desire “everybody do whatever they want.”

At the moment that a society accepts universal inclusion, it commits itself to control, or the habit of having (1) a centralized authority that demands (2) uniform, or “universal,” obedience to the same rules. Purpose has been replaced by rules, which are a proxy or symbolic substitute for purpose. Rules are popular because they can be easily gamed, or subverted in intent while staying within boundaries of the rule as written.

Control is destructive because it forces people to externalize the process of making decisions to the rules. People no longer think about the consequences of their actions; they think about the rules, and whether they will be seen as good or bad for their attitude toward the rules. Authority and leadership are replaced by power.

In long term physical consequences, control creates societies that are destructive for the same reason that red tides — algal blooms that absorb all the oxygen and choke all life in ponds and oceans — are devastating. With no need to be focused on purpose, people expand in every direction chaotically, and this encourages reckless growth in order to sustain the vast number of people doing nothing particularly important.

The greatest damage however is done inside of people. When they defer responsibility to external forces, they lose the ability to make decisions. This in turn savages their ability to understand what is important, and what their own values are. Soon only two things exist: against-the-rules and permitted by dint of not being prohibited. This fosters random behavior, perversity, parasitism and other human ills that civilization needs to keep in check.

People in such societies are made neurotic. They no longer know what is real, only what is rewarded with popularity. Like lemmings, they would march over a cliff by following the person in front of them. They are entirely regulated by social control, or what others think of them based on appearance, and so “reality” becomes alien.

For this reason, they never know what the outcomes of their actions will be, and start to become conformist or prone to negatively restrict their actions to what has become popular in the past. This creates a herd instinct that focuses people on trends, panics, fads and precedent and punishes any who deviate through social censure. That in turn creates a headless society, like a circle of people each following the other.

At this point, people begin to feel pretty bad at an existential level, or the depth at which one considers the meaning of life and the value of existence. Nothing they do that is good will be rewarded, and any attempts to break out of groupthink will be punished. A dark organization has arisen that opposes creative and realistic thinking.

The only way out of the ensuing death spiral is to effect an artificial bottleneck, or filtering of the population for its most fit, in this case those that still understand the purpose. Either that group must leave and set up a new civilization, or it must exile the purposeless.

Among diseases, the spread of this mental virus is unique because it attacks the strong. Civilizations that rise above the minimum now must contend with a threat from within, and many people are frightened of the type of strong authority — with consequences of potential exclusion — that this return to health requires.

In the modern West, we have needed such a purge for some time. It is not because these people are bad but because their purpose is elsewhere. If we want to restore the greatness of the past and rise to new greatness in the future, we need a civilization unified on that purpose.

Election 2016 presents a moment ripe for such a decision. Half of the country wants a third-world style socialist government, and the rest wants something going in the opposite or, better, a healthier direction. Whichever side wins will destroy the other, so the bottleneck is coming whether we like it or not.
