Nationalism Arises From The Family

A glance at a nation’s native birthrate gives you a first-order approximation of whether they would be hard or easy to knock over and conquer. (((Spengler))) is just enough of a schmuck to point that particular mathematical reality out to the curious.

Just 29% of the French are willing to fight for their country, according to a 2017 WIN/Gallup poll, a bit above Germany’s 18%. Contrast that to 84% of Israel’s Jewish population. That’s “patriotism” or “nationalism,” as you prefer. The Europeans know from neither. All they want is an untroubled journey to extinction. As it happens, there is a reasonably tight statistical relationship between the total fertility rate and readiness to defend one’s country.

So if you had any particular desire to procreate and deal with getting the kiddoes up and off to school at butt-early AM, then why would you do that to yourself? You do that to place a positive bet on the future. In Wall Street parlance, you are long on the proposition that your offspring will be smarter, richer and better looking than you ever were and that they will increase rather than decrease the fortunes of your family line. Assuming the decision to reproduce was study and intentional, you then spend a good twenty or so years dollar cost averaging until you’ve leaned a major portion of your adulthood hard into that particular bet.

Nobody but an idiot would get that stuck in on a whim. Nobody vapid could make that serious a commitment. The sort of individual who could give their life if the price was right. You have to believe in the place and the time in to which you will be releasing those children. This also requires an almost heroic investment in another human being. Hopefully another human being a lot less screwed-up than the one you see some days in the mirror. So to even endeavor to procreate the next generation you need all of those things in synchronicity, or you really need to believe hard in your own press releases. You need to believe hard enough to die for it.

Americans can laugh at Germany and France all they want, but to quote an old lyric from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, we increasingly “push the trigger and pull the thread.” We are becoming a nation that won’t reproduce itself. As the better generations die off and are replaced by lesser seed, the traditions are forgotten and all the good things they maintained fall into ruin.

Thus, it shouldn’t exactly hit you over the head with a cold, dead fish that we don’t guard our borders, and may not even effectively defend ourselves with the gold-plated, $762 Bil a year military either. It just isn’t all that hard to fight and then finish some useless pussy who no longer even gives a f*ck.
