In what is either a cynical or optimistic view, humanity needs the present time in order to have a learning experience about symbolism.
First we rejected idol-worship, and adopted abstract symbolic gods instead. Some would say we are in the process of rejecting centralized authority, which relies on the notion of a shared “truth” or values among all people for the purposes of manipulating them.
Eventually we will reject the one-dimensional categorical world of symbolism itself, starting with the artificial binary of “good” and “evil,” but extending outward to notions like “equality” and “altruism.”
We will see ourselves again as animals adapting to their world. This requires an esoteric viewpoint: there is no universal shared truth, but some know more than others, and so we must promote those who are wisest and clearest in their thinking to positions of authority.
This notion captures the structural aspect of Darwinism. In nature, the best rise over time, and this produces hierarchy. These hierarchies are necessary for ecosystems to function, since you need the most proficient animals to exploit the best opportunities to keep the system efficient.
Organic things tend toward structure because the relationships between parts supports the whole and in turn, by rising quality, benefit those parts. In a functional ecosystem, very little is wasted, which means more energy and nutrition available for all creatures within it.
This bothers the individualist, however, because (a) this benefit occurs in the long-term and (b) this benefit does not accrue directly to individuals. Individualists do not want richer soil; they want food placed on their plates right now.
Individualism occurs in humanity because our nature is narcissism. Our big brains make sense of things, and this makes us think that we are the cause and focus of all reality, making us both egotistical and paranoid.
Humans project a universal human consensual hallucination called “truth” where what is “true” is asserted as a means of controlling reality. They use thoughts to confine the abundance and unpredictabily of nature.
This shared space of absolute and universal ideals does not exist, but our minds make it seem to be so, which is an extension of our natural solipsism. In reality, people understand things very differently and have wildly different directions based on their places in the natural hierarchy.
Hierarchy exists in nature as a form of entropy reversal. Entropy occurs when too many demands on any single decision render the choice meaningless, slowing down the transfer of energy. Hierarchy renews focus on a singular set of adaptive principles instead of dissipating into too many choices.
Currently, our society is divided between the individualists and the realists.
Individualists posit that individual humans are more important than natural order. Realists see it as the exact opposite: no one is important, but the mission of life, including human life, is important but can only survive when it is consistent with the rest of nature.
The realists include many conservatives but not all, and almost no liberals. Realists see biology and the function of nature as superior to the desires, judgments, and sensations of individual humans. We must first adapt to reality, and then worry about our options in it.
Realists accept Darwinism or “natural selection” which means that nature tries all options and keeps the ones that are compatible with the whole of the environment, not just what one person intends or wants.
Opposing Darwinism are the dual heads of individualism. Christianity believes that every soul is equal, and therefore things like culture, ethnicity, intellect, and honor are external to what the person really is. Liberalism believes we are all equal or should be made so.
Darwinism on the other hand acknowledges that nothing is equal, knowledge is esoteric, and removal of the maladapted is a benefit to all. When the narcissistic mice that never think about predators get eaten, the remaining mice get more aware over each generation.
Even more, Darwnism counteracts entropy. Every generation goes through a process of sorting in order to establish hierarchy, and this promotes the most competent and exiles the least competent. Is it cruel? It is less cruel than being less competent.
We are still in the dark ages of Europe and the USA where we fight over what Charles Darwin discovered. Our egos do not let us accept natural selection, yet everything is better when we do. The Christians and liberals fear natural selection and demonize all who endorse it.
They are holding our society hostage to their symbolic pretenses. Until we can assert natural selection over individualism, humanity’s future will be a narcissistic one, and natural selection will remove us over time.
Perhaps the future will be idyllic. A few hominids frolic in front of a cave, fighting over fruit. A sabre-tooth tiger appears and carries off one of the furry, low-IQ, dark-skinned humanoids and eats it. The rest ponder for a moment, then resume their bickering, pushing the scary memories of the predator out of their minds.
