Golden ticket

What killed the Soviet Union was that ideology replaced reality. Because other people reacted more positively to ideological “truths” than truth itself, the entire country acted on those ideological impulses and excluded reality from the picture.

We live in similar times in the modern West, meaning Western Europe, the UK and the USA. The ideology of the Soviets was equal funding, or Communism; our ideology is equal validity, or the freedom to pursue even illogical ends (on society’s dime). In the name of this freedom and equality we would do anything, even sacrifice ourselves, because this value is so fundamental to us.

Both of these ideologies are means of manipulating the herd, which is what happens when your society does not have a hierarchy and is composed of a vast mass of equal individuals. Such people do not do anything they do not “want” to, so you have to make them want to do things through outrage, bribery, greed, lust, arrogance and other base emotions.

Democracy does not always have to fail this way. When it’s a millionaires club from those who have made successful businesses, or come from old money, as the Founding Fathers intended it to be, democracy is more like a big committee meeting between people who know how to make the affairs of humankind succeed. When you open up the floor to everyone with 23 pairs of chromosomes, the standard of discussion drops as does what the group recognizes as a result.

That’s when the manipulation starts. The voters will always complain about being manipulated, yet they demand that they be manipulated by the very nature of mass politics. You need to manage a herd, and make it like your idea, which isn’t going to happen through intellectual means. This is more like spectators at a sports stadium than thinkers in a library. As a result, you make the idea sexy and describe it in the most lurid terms.

There is one exception. You can also flatter your audience. You see salespeople do this all the time: “Since you’re such a nice person, you’ll obviously want something a little more elegant…”

You flatter the voters by telling them that contrary to appearance, the goal of politics not power and function. It is morality. Morality in a group cannot be more complex than “be nice to each other.” As a result, you appeal to notions of opposition to cruelty, desires for equality and justice, and a sense of fair play that includes pity to those in less fortunate circumstances.

Although people insist that this is proof that voters are not selfish, the reality is that the voters are extremely selfish. They’re purchasing a different type of product here, which is a sense of self-esteem derived from external sources. That way, it doesn’t matter if they live in failed squalor. They are nice people because they supported the nice people initiative the government offered.

These pandering initiatives create a type of “Golden Ticket,” based on the concept from the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. In it, a character finds a golden ticket that allows him entrance to the most fascinating place on earth.

Here in modern liberal democracy, what a golden ticket does is buy us unlimited justification to be not-equal. In other words, to put our interests first because these aren’t our interests, but the interests of the group. If you wonder why government is prone to abuse, it is because it is a golden ticket. It magically opens doors and allows you to do anything you want.

Since our ideology is based on equality, any highly visible affirmation of equality is more important than reality itself. These golden tickets must be immediately visible to all people as a means of furthering equality by helping out those who have less. There is no better golden ticket than civil rights, although gender equality and gay rights might do so in a pinch.

Civil rights in the West means multiculturalism since we as a richer society have accumulated, through some means awful and some means simply commercial, a vast underclass of people from a different background than the majority. Multiculturalism is extending equal social status to these people.

Since multiculturalism is thus the visible aspect of our underlying idea of equality and its socially sacred values, any support of multicultural ideals then becomes a golden ticket that unlocks all doors. Most importantly, it unlocks the door to the gold, or objectives on which the public has repeatedly voted to spend unlimited amounts of money.

The Golden Ticket gets your department a higher budget. When other departments get slashed, your Golden Ticket makes sure you lose no money or even get more. For individuals, the Golden Ticket often means they cannot be fired except for incompetence so pervasive that it was a net negative instead of a net zero contribution.

In Soviet Russia, the Golden Ticket was being a Communist true believer. If you were a zampolit, or political officer, or otherwise worked in the vast bureaucracy that tried to keep people brainwashed, you could do just about anything. After all, you could have people shot, with a simple phone call.

In the modern West, the accusation of “racism” is about like being shot. You become un-employable. Even more, no one wants to show you any good will, so get used to being a pariah. You will have no friends. Stores will not be excited to help you. People will want you gone from the public sight, like pedophiles and drug addicts should be.

And the cost of the Golden Ticket just keeps piling up. Social welfare programs now make up half of our budget. In the other half, how many pensions and military programs are actually diversity and equality programs? There is no one central organization that funds diversity; instead, every single organization must have its own diversity department.

For example, many universities are busy slashing science programs, cutting computer science, and even savaging the liberal arts but they have time and money for diversity. The indomitable Heather Mac Donald collected this list of diversity-related job titles from one university:

the Chancellor’s Diversity Office, the associate vice chancellor for faculty equity, the assistant vice chancellor for diversity, the faculty equity advisors, the graduate diversity coordinators, the staff diversity liaison, the undergraduate student diversity liaison, the graduate student diversity liaison, the chief diversity officer, the director of development for diversity initiatives, the Office of Academic Diversity and Equal Opportunity, the Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues, the Committee on the Status of Women, the Campus Council on Climate, Culture and Inclusion, the Diversity Council, and the directors of the Cross-Cultural Center, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center, and the Women’s Center. – City Journal, via Unamusement Park

Across the West, governments are acting out an anti-majority agenda not because they hate the majority, but because helping minorities is a Golden Ticket. The more you focus on minorities, the more money your department gets, and the higher your career goes.

It’s essentially identical to the Soviet system of promoting the most loyal communists over those with questionable allegiances. Those with the Golden Ticket rise, whether competent or not. This means that we flood ourselves with the unrealistic at the same time we back away from using a projection of reality to test our ideas, and instead worry only if they’re ideologically correct.

Every day we refuse to turn back from this delusional course of action, we come closer to the fate that awaited the Soviets — collapse from within. When that happens, even having been a good true believer cannot save you from the chaos that results.

When they could, the USSR actually was far from collapsing.
In its last decades, the Union wasn’t so totalitarian.

In the modern West, the accusation of “racism” is about like being shot. You become un-employable. Even more, no one wants to show you any good will, so get used to being a pariah. You will have no friends.

In the US, isn’t it easy for the like-minded to unite and organize movements, or run common business? If, say, i take myself and a dozen more “racists”, can we buy land and start a farm (we’re not going to tell anyone we’re “racists”)? Can a hundred racists organize a kindergarten for their racist kids? Can a thousand racists create a new settlement? Is it possible de jure?
These questions might be funny, but still…

    You become un-employable.

Do they really fire (or not employ) people who speak against diversity?
What becomes the official reason? Is there any norm in your labour legislation which allows to kick out “racists”? How does your next potential employer know you’re a “racist”? By talking to your preavious employer?

You’re not from the USA, haha, so this must be a total mystery. If I want to get your ass fired, I call your boss and tell him you’re a racist, then show him something that proves it. Could just be a Facebook post. Welcome to unemployment. If you and 100 “racists” bought land and started a farm, the instant someone made that call you’d have every state agency within 500 miles coming to “investigate.” If you resissted anything including seizure of your property you would be shot. David Koresh and Hutaree militia were weirdos but they were the kind of people the founding fathers wanted to protected. Just because they’re different, isn’t a reason why we can persecute them.

But is it LEGAL? Is there a norm for this in your LEGISLATION? In our country, you might get, for example, fined for “provoking international dissent and hatred”, but this has nothing to do with your employment.
And, is it LEGAL to turn away job candidates who have previously shown “racist” behaviour? How are the cases of “racist” behaviour logged?

If you resissted anything including seizure of your property you would be shot.

Why would they want to seize one’s property? How would they connect it to “racism”?

        1. Brian Jefferson says:

Corporations and small businesses have certain rights that are akin to freedom of speech and such. A company can fire you for anything (unless you are in a union or work for the gevernment). the technical reason they would fire you is for creating an uncomfortable atmosphere in the workplace. And to be honest, if the employer doesn’t fire you, it is your ass and the employers who are getting sued when you make that second racially charged comment. If the employer doesn’t create that friendly atmosphere by firing you or cesuring you, he is implicitly endorsing your actions, as you are his employee and your actions at the workplace ar company actions.

As far as how they know, every adult job requires you to list your three previous employers (or there abouts). If I worked a job for five years and got fired for being a racist, I would not list the job on an application, but then my future boss would question what I had been doig for the last five years with no income. Either way, no job.

          1. 1349 says:

            list your three previous employers

But does one have to list the reasons why he left those jobs?

Also, is it technically possible to hire only whites/”racists”?

Liberals are turning America into one giant “golden ticket” for illegal immigrants (i.e. “Democrat voters”).

Not only do they ignore expensive hospital bills and get access to entitlement programs, but now they are scamming billions of your tax dollars out of the IRS by claiming 20+ dependents back home. Our government is permitting and encouraging parasitic behavior.

    Howdy !

Thank you for writing such insightful posts.

One problem of mass politics is that one only gets people to agree with basic and simple ideas. As a discussion progresses, differences will occur. What politicians have to do in that department is to champion the most raw thinking schemes.

As a result elections are pitiful public display. In a country like US, where you can pick from dozens of types of ketchup or SUV, the allegedly most important decision in the political realm presents you with two sides of the same coin and the certainty Rahm Emanuel or someone like him will be appointed to some public office.

And to show some disagreement, I’d say the political elite hate the majority. In Europe I guess they either lost hope in their one people or by some reason they want it destroyed. The architects of PC (political correctness) are people who in their position as outsiders have long ago decide to crush the values the Europeans and their descendents have held most dear across the years.

    1. fug says:

Not that we can vote our way out of this system, but I tell people they should work to implement low threshold proportional representation starting at the local level. Then they could form anti-PC, anti-DC/Hollywood, decentralist, proto-secessionist coalitions that act as strictly non-violent “guerrilla foco” at the grass roots level.

In promoting PR for governmental elections, the easiest place to begin is at the local level. Usually all it takes is a change in a city or county charter in order to adopt proportional representation. City governments regularly form committees to review their charters, and these are excellent opportunities for citizens to raise the option of using PR. City officials are sometimes reluctant to lead the way in this kind of change, and they may even try to impede it. So in many areas citizens may often have to organize themselves and offer referendums in order to reform their city charter.

“the easiest place to begin is at the local level”

        Good idea, but…
Before starting anything at the local level, a well articulated message should be prepared and spread among the people.
There is no such message articulated in a way, that it would be supported, at least, by the majority, exist.
Also, the anti-something movements display purely negative attitude and normally fail.
Other than that, everything is fine.

  5. ferret says:

    Nice picture.

  6. ferret says:

“What killed the Soviet Union was that ideology replaced reality.”

In the Soviet Union the official ideology was Communism in Marxist meaning of this word (Classless, moneyless, and stateless society with no politics. No politics because there are no classes.)

This officially declared ideology was used to cover the fact there was a state capitalist economy under the rule of “Nomenclatura” – a group of most energetic and less interested in the flourishing society people. They were competing with each other to keep a good position and fulfil their own self-interest.

While there was a lot of talking about Communism and Socialism as a transitional first phase of Communism, people did not believe and voluntarily supported them. There was no democracy but a totalitarian state instead.

The majority didn’t believe in Communism, but they were demoralized and exhausted. The most intelligent people, who could lead a resistance movement, were killed by Stalin; the KGB were watching the whole society. There was no hope.

  7. ferret says:

“The ideology of the Soviets was equal funding, or Communism”

Communism is not about equal funding. It is about the abundance of material goods with distribution according to one’s needs. No money, no financial institutions.

  8. ferret says:

“Both of these ideologies are means of manipulating the herd, which is what happens when your society does not have a hierarchy”

In the case of the Soviet Union, there was no manipulation (because there was no belief in the official ideology). It was a command style of ruling (close to that of army style). And there was the hierarchy providing these commands flow from the top to the bottom with reporting to the top. Very strict hierarchy.

  9. ferret says:

“When it’s a millionaires club from those who have made successful businesses, or come from old money, as the Founding Fathers intended it to be, democracy is more like a big committee meeting between people who know how to make the affairs of humankind succeed.”

Here you are describing Oligarchy (or, in a best ideal non-existent case, Aristocracy).

  10. ferret says:

“You flatter the voters by telling them that contrary to appearance, the goal of politics not power and function. It is morality.”

Yes, that’s what they do a lot, along with other tricks. Very good observation, very well articulated.

  11. ferret says:

“Since our ideology is based on equality, any highly visible affirmation of equality is more important than reality itself.”

The liberal capitalist ideology is based on the idea of equal opportunity to become capitalist. Not on the notion of eqality in your interpretation (equal value of ideas, men, etc.) Quite opposite: If you are better than others, you may make money and become part of the elites.

And of course, this equal opportunity is a big lie: one cannot become rich just working hard and in a productive way.

  12. ferret says:

“In Soviet Russia, the Golden Ticket was being a Communist true believer. If you were a zampolit, or political officer, or otherwise worked in the vast bureaucracy that tried to keep people brainwashed, you could do just about anything.”

Most of true belivers were shot. The political officers weren’t believers: they were busy with arresting people who talked about freedom, truth, human rights, and the like. These dissidents normally were kept in mental facilities, where “doctors” experimented on them.

The Golden Ticket in Russia was the right connection with the right people.

    1. 1349 says:

arresting people who talked about freedom, truth, human rights, and the like.

The only goals of those people were to overthrow the soviet rule and establish the manipulative liberal regime that has eventually won in the West and is criticized on this blog. “Truth”, “freedom”, “human rights” – a deceitful facade, just as in today’s Europe and US.
The post-WW2 USSR was rather a good country, a country of equal opportunities and of meaningful lives, until about 1985.

      1. crow says:

That’s an interesting perspective, and one only a non-westerner could make. The west was terrified of the monster they judged the USSR to be, and spent vast fortunes trying to protect itself from it.

I used to fantasize, as young men do, of travelling to Russia and explaining to the Russians that the west was full of very nice people, and why don’t we all just be friends :)
It is just as well only the young are saddled with the business of youth. Who else would be able to endure it?

        1. I think there’s some revisionist history going on here. The worst of the purges were pre-1985, and the shocking incompetence of the Russian space and military programs shows how they were promoting the dogma believers and not the best. The Soviets lost the Cold War and collapsed as a civilization, so rose-colored glasses have no place here. There’s also the problem of daily lack of bread and mass graves. You all are very much in denial of history.

          1. 1349 says:

            Too much hate and impudence…
You seem to believe in the dogma of liberal history. ;)
By the way, which country did the world’s first spaceman belong to – according to your history guide books?

      2. ferret says:

“The only goals of those people were to overthrow the soviet rule”

Yes, many of them had this goal. They believed the free market capitalism was superior to the Soviet style economics, and believed in capitalist democracy been much better than totalitarian regime.

I also knew people that truly believed in Communism and were repressed. They couldn’t understand where is the promised democracy and considered its absence as a local issue. After reporting this, they had a lot of problems. People are sometimes naive.

Anyway, my point was there were litle Communist true believers in the USSR.

  13. ferret says:

“Across the West, governments are acting out an anti-majority agenda not because they hate the majority, but because helping minorities is a Golden Ticket.”

It’s a very good point. Nobody, including the government, is caring about the society. Self-interest is the only goal.

  14. ferret says:

“we flood ourselves with the unrealistic at the same time we back away from using a projection of reality to test our ideas, and instead worry only if they’re ideologically correct.”

All these democratic and liberal ideas do not concern the base of the society, which is capital that is the ruling force and defines reality. If we are talking about liberal values only, there is no chance of improving the situation. And you are right, nobody is looking to test how these liberal ideas work.
