Civilizational Exhaustion

COVID-19 will baffle historians because they will see it as the type of impediment that a healthy society would have shrugged off, much as Sweden did, or as the world was able to handle H1N1. Instead humanity just gave up and switched into a combination of panic and stupor.

That type of response shows an organism at the end of its rope. It cannot go on as it was, and it cannot envision a different future, so it puts out its limbs, plants itself, and refuses to move. It would rather die in place than be forced, again, into an action that it sees as against its interests.

In the grand scheme of things, the COVID-19 panic of 2020 shows humanity just giving up. People are tired of the dead-end cycle of modernity, where we repeat the same things and get the same bad results, but because of our ideology, cannot consider any other options.

Humanity consigned itself to a prison of itself by conquering nature. With advanced tools (technology) we gained the ability to feed ourselves, avoid most disease, and live without constant fear of being lunch for some other stronger creature.

This however left us in existential limbo. What do we do now, with our lives? The answer lay within: we improve our mental structure through self-discipline so that we can think clearly, then discover the parts of life that hide in plain sight.

Not everyone will do that, or can do that, which created a society divided in two: full humans and confused people who lack the self-actualization, maturity, and self-discipline to experience life as it is.

Since the latter group generally becomes more numerous, a gradual creeping influence of commerce, social factors, and politics took over human society. This herd-domination, known as Crowdism, represented significant buying power and political support, so society turned to cater them.

A millennium later and everything is wrecked, but to un-wreck it, we have to admit that the confused people are terrible and need to be oppressed. This is not very polite, not politically correct, but it is accurate, although people will not accept it.

This places the human organism in a hopeless condition. Afflicted by the disease of itself, it has to turn on itself in order to fix it, but since that is unpopular and unprofitable, it cannot happen. The disease goes on year after year until suddenly, we become exhausted.

We have hit the point of civilizational exhaustion with COVID-19, and it shows the total rejection of ideas like equality, democracy, diversity, feminism, market socialism, consumerism, trends, bureaucracy, jobs, careerism, and all other aspects of modern life, which is based on the duality of me-first-above-all-else individualism and the group collective enforcement necessary to maintain it.

At this point, the burden of supporting the confused humans has risen above the enjoyment people get out of life. With our technology, we should be working a couple of hours a day and then spending the rest of the time on real life, but instead we work all the time to provide jobs and free stuff to the many confused humans, because otherwise they would just perish (so they tell us).

To get out of this mess, we have to return partially to a state of nature, which means carrying ourselves only and not others. This makes us vulnerable, since the others may gang up on us through revolutions or invasions like the Mongols and Muslims who terrorized Europe with their tedious attacks.

Luckily, our technology provides an antidote. We can keep them at bay with nuclear weapons, nerve gas, or our future kill-bots which will simply harvest them by the millions and then compost the corpses for a new, cleaner and more vital Earth experience.

In order for us to get to that point, however, we have to shrug off the extra burden that we carry, namely anti-poverty, diversity, and pro-equality programs. These obligate those who are rising to support those who are falling.

When expressed as theory, that sounds good: leave no one behind. In the instant, that would be the case, but over time, this means that we give people incentive to fall so they can be supported, and drain the rising so that the falling feel better.

It sounds cruel, at first, but this is not our problem. All of humanity benefits when some rise above the rest and do great things, so that all of us may learn and emulate. We cannot have greatness and equality both, so it is time to cut free the exhaustion policy of equality, and become great again.
