There is one question that should haunt every human every hour of every day, if the species could think clearly: why does everything we do decay over time and turn into a mirror image of itself?
We can expect some of this through the process of forgetting. People confuse methods with goals, effects with causes, and symbols with action, and then fall into a nice comfy easy pattern of doing the same old thing whether or not it works.
And yet… that is not satisfying. The theory of Crowdism says that human groups, since they are formed of individualists, ignore things that upset individualists and therefore end up with compromises that deny the most important issues.
That is accurate, as well, but there is an even greater dimension: any “system” gets blamed for the fact that some are happy and many are not. They will not blame themselves, even though they are the only ones who can create their own happiness.
Resentment builds like inflammation in a diseased body. This unites people on contrarianism, or the pathology of rejecting any authority, even common sense, because it offends their personal self-image and feelings.
The secret to contrarians can only be understood once we get past notions of “good” and “evil.” It is hard to disbelieve in goodness, but an external force pressuring us toward good? Seems like a paranoid conspiracy theory.
More likely, life rewards what is good because it works better than anything else, and when we aspire to good in the sense of “the good, the beautiful, and the real” in parallel, we orient ourselves toward rising out of the mental ghetto of individualism and finding purpose and meaning in life.
In a relative universe — or more fundamentally, in a decentralized universe — there are no “systems” that reward obedient application of the “correct” methods. There is only what works, which reflects the design of the system. You get an indirect god instead of a direct one.
This is not to say that the divine does not exist and does not intervene in daily life. A panentheist would say that it may manifest in multiple beings or personalities, and one of them scurries around trying to save us from ourselves.
With the demise of “good” and “evil,” we are left with Darwinian adaptation: some things work, thus persist, and others do not, thus fade away. This applies even to thoughts and emotions. It is a great filter that exists at every level of life.
This means that we are struggling for understanding of the world against our inner tendency to become individualistic and deny the presence of order in the outside world. The former is less-stupid and the latter is full stupidity, since the external world is consistent.
In turn that leads us to the topic of this writing. Why does everything always decay? The sad answer is that any group wants stupidity to win. They are individualists, therefore contrarians, which makes them anti-realists who must rationalize their decisions in symbols and emotions instead of, like consequentialists, focusing on the results produced (or not produced).
Human existence has always been a war on stupidity, but no one can recognize that because that requires calling some things stupid, which makes twitchy people feel as if they have been called stupid, and this breaks the social rule of accepting everyone and avoiding controversy. Do not rock the boat; go along to get along; just play the game.
Stupidity often does not involve actual mental inability. Its root is the fear of confronting upsetting or controversial things. We avoid confronting such things because they create disturbing sensations in our minds. Because we do not confront them, we understand the world less and operate through illusions, symbols, appearances, and emotions.
Think of the third world. It is run entirely on The Optics and the emotions responsible, which means that every aspect of life in it is wholly manipulative and based in social activity not analytical thinking about how to get things done.
Then think of every failing business, social club, or society you know. The Heckler’s Veto drives away normal people, the crazies take over, and then they do things for the emotions or appearances and these end up badly but no one will publicly notice because that will offend the shared emotions of the group.
Even more, the contrarians actively want stupidity to win. To them, life is something to be revenged upon, and people who are happy are to be envied and hated, so contrarians want stupidity to win so that it can punish and harm these people.
That is their mentality, even though it is simplistic and insane.
In the animal world of humanity, you beat the other guy by demoralizing him and breaking his will to fight on. You bully him, traumatize him, and make him think that there is no way anything good will ever be in his future.
This is why humans vandalize their own civilizations and the world. In order to demoralize those who own these things, the vandals must ruin anything good, which drives out anyone smarter than a toadstool. That allows the vandals to take over.
Most of humanity operates on the principle of the crowd. That is, they form a group based on mutual need and tolerance, and then use the power of the many to tear down anyone who rose above the lowest common denominator.
When you see democracy constantly making stupid mistakes, diversity burning down cities, the impoverished living in graffiti- and drug-scarred favelas or trailer parks, and Leftist academics preaching obvious insanity, recognize: they want stupidity to win.
The LCD only feels safe in the company of the stupid because the stupid will not notice mediocrity. They simply do not care; they live in little worlds that are almost entirely solipsistic, in which emotion, impulse, and action are basically the same.
They are happy being stupid. They hate that anyone has risen above that because now they can no longer be happy being stupid. No matter what they say or what theories of justice and so on they offer, they want stupidity to win, and you are standing in the way.
