When Did Things Get So Dark?

Currently our media seems to be scapegoating social media for the collapse of Western Civilization, but this appears to be more directly related to the influence social media had on the last election than anything else.

William Gibson observed that sometime around the first Bush term, America became a dark place without a sense of future. While he wanted to blame Bush, more likely this was a hangover from the second Clinton term in which the momentary boost of demand-side economics and diversity faded.

By 1998, America was a hopeless place because affirmative action had taken over the workforce, essentially driving out what would become three generations of Caucasian men, dooming them to be perpetual entry-level employees or to seek the few remaining growth industries.

After 9/11, the crisis of having foreigners walk among us became obvious, but because Christians believe souls and morality are disconnected from bodies and reality, GWB could not confront that issue and instead passed the Patriot Act.

Censorship and repression by private industries as directed by government became the norm for the next two decades.

The situation culminated in the Obama presidency, which cemented the dominance of diversity over the founding ethnic group in America, essentially dividing people into compliant oblivious idiots and a dissident group that saw tragedy approaching.

In this way, the US became like the EU and South Africa, a society divided by diversity where casting blame was more important than solving problems. Tribal identity beat down any unity and gaining points for the tribe was more important than fixing infrastructure.

This pattern repeats across the third world, ironically enough. Societies divided by ethnicity, religion, and race rapidly become balkanized and then unable to collaborate on much of anything, leading to a point where all social institutions are dysfunctional and kleptocratic.

We might even see the bureaucracy as a type of artificial unity, replacing the natural unity that occurs among a tribe. To avoid having hurt feelings, the bureaucrats dole out benefits and obligations equally, but in doing so, create a power structure that rewards the vicious.

Ordinary people have no need for external power because they create their own power. If you are the plumber in a village, and are good at what you do, you help people all day and are well-rewarded for it, so your life is good and you have a reason to have self-esteem.

People who cannot contribute in this way — contributors are creators (artisans), producers (farmers, artisans), and maintainers (sages, warriors) — end up finding themselves seeking power like a product on a shelf, and they only get this through the ability to enforce rules.

In my view, the 1960s continued in the 1990s with the Clinton presidency and by the second term of that presidency, had produced the same dark results that Jimmy O’Carter did and Barack O’Bama and Joe O’Biden later would.

Leftists like policies that defend the individual against social and natural order, so they like demand-side economics, social anarchy, and socialist-style subsidies. These devalue the currency, reduce quality, and create a crab bucket society where everyone is clawing others to get ahead.

Instead however it is easier to blame social media because there people speak about events without being controlled by the media Establishment:

Emotional distress was associated with being more affected from using social media, in particular in terms of stress and concern for own or others’ health. The use of social media has increased during the coronavirus outbreak, as well as its impacts on people. In particular, the participants reported more stress and health concerns attributed to social media use after the COVID-19 outbreak. People with poor mental health appear to be particularly vulnerable to experiencing more stress and concern related to their use of social media.

If we view the 1960s as our second civil war, it is clear that the non-WASPs took over and the media, who were lauded in their role, became the new propaganda arm of the anti-WASP political machine that thrived on non-WASP and later non-White votes.

These made America dark; social media for a few moments revealed this darkness, and the Noticing so unnerved those in power that they now want to blame the tool for their own poor job. In reality, liberalism has failed again and we are trying to find the will to rebuild.
