Oh No! War with Iran. Or is it?

Israel just bombed Iran, destroying scientists and military sites. Israel has a simple demand: they do not want a nuclear Iran that can threaten Israel with oblivion. Iran states that if Israel has the bomb, Iran wants it too.

Back in realityland, it is clear that ideally Iran would not have the bomb because Iran is unstable and prone to impulsive military action. Israel has the bomb because it is tiny and the threat of nuclear annihilation of its enemies keeps Israel from being invaded by Muslim hordes.

We can say this without taking sides. Israel with a bomb is unlikely to kick off WW3; Iran with the bomb is much more likely to do so.

Right now the media is in a feeding frenzy over this event, but this sort of thing happens every couple of years. Iran wants a bomb and if not, it wants billions from the USA to not publicly make a bomb while trying to do so in private.

Each time this comes up, Israel achieves a stunning bombing victory that blows up the Iranian nuclear program and whatever scientists drew the short straw to be on base on that time. Iran vows revenge and sends tons of drones to attack Israel, which shoots most of them down.

That way, both sides get to claim they did something, and neither is vastly hurt. Iran begins building the next generation of facilities, and Israel goes back to spying on them. Everyone keeps their jobs.

The current event will most likely be the same. Despite the usual neurotics wailing about doom, Iran and Israel will trade strikes and this will mostly blow over. The US will pay for billions in Patriot missiles and Iran will pay for millions in drones.

Considering that the cost of the missiles to Israel is a rounding error in our welfare program, no one is that much worse off. The media wants a war so they can feel relevant again, but this is not a likely outcome.
