One of the most odious tropes in Hollywood screenwriting begins with a single word. “Look,” says the protagonist, instead of laying the hardline so that everyone must inexorably confront how real and right its.
But, look: you are living in a mathematical impossibility.
99.99% of voters are not paying attention to the issues. They vote for what makes them seem socially acceptable to their peer pressure group. They vote for what makes them feel like they are in control and the people they hate are having to pay.
Not only that, they have no idea what they are voting on. Most people do not have time for the drama of democracy, and so they pick off the cuff what seems like it might be something that would make them feel better about the void at the center of their lives.
Maybe a percent of a percent have a chance to make these decisions logically. Everyone else is indulging their pretense and fears.
Democracy never made sense. We just relied on it because it was an easy answer. But when the vote of an idiot equals that of a genius, there is no future, only a slow steady decay.
