HIV/AIDS Vaccine Ends the Epidemic

From the We Hope It is Not Simply Hype department, news of a new HIV/AIDS vaccine seems to have slipped below the news cycle:

Researchers from MIT and Scripps have unveiled a promising new HIV vaccine approach that generates a powerful immune response with just one dose. By combining two immune-boosting adjuvants alum and SMNP the vaccine lingers in lymph nodes for nearly a month, encouraging the body to produce a vast array of antibodies. This one-shot strategy could revolutionize how we fight not just HIV, but many infectious diseases. It mimics the natural infection process and opens the door to broadly neutralizing antibody responses, a holy grail in vaccine design. And best of all, it’s built on components already known to medicine.

Many on the right like to express an opinion against homosexuality (et al “LGBT”) but here we maintain a two-pronged approach, which is that we should accept people as they are and yet accept that people will not get along and will make fun of each other.

Gay people doing gay stuff is fine by us. The politicization of LGBTHIVBBQ2FA+ seems to be over anyway, and so the question returns to what we have identified for years as the issue, namely setting up gay communities in cities so gays and straights can coexist separately.

This argument calls for both segregation (all gays move to gayborhoods, heterosexuals keep their standards in their hoods) and recognition of not just cultural but personal relativism. What works for one of us will not work for all or others; we have different destinies.

It is also quite frankly ridiculous to expect means-over-ends morality like the Christians do. Young gay men are going to do what young gay men do, which involves a certain amount of promiscuity.

Ending this epidemic which has claimed so many lives not only is a triumph of science, but frees gays from the victimhood mentality that arose in the 1980s where they saw the indifference of the world to HIV/AIDS suffering as evidence of bigotry.

However, it really was different destinies all along. Gays and straights walk different paths and therefore, neither is really concerned with the other. AIDS was essentially a gay and minority disease, so the mainstream owed them nothing, and vice-versa.

Absolutely no one will be sad to see this horrific illness pass into history however. In a sane society, we accept homosexuality as an eccentricity and move on to real issues instead of having a Christian fixation on limiting sodomy to ceremonial uses only.
