It is the eternal downfall of humanity to choose emotions, optics, symbols, and social pressure over hard reality, and the West rose by avoiding that pitfall and opting instead for the transcendental, or aspiring to eternal excellence by pursuing intangibles like goodness, beauty, and realism.
