It was a flicker of darkness across the light of life when the news leaked out that Zman, founder and primary writer of the enigmatic ZBlog, had passed away early this morning from natural causes. His loss will be felt across the Right, and the Left, too, since they borrowed from his pieces.

He specialized in what we might call reporting of the microzeitgeist, or the spirit of the attitude of a short length of time in which people are responding to some vast change in their world and need some handle on it, some short story that makes it comprehensible.

Seeing him take on the illusions of the day with a handy metaphor was always a great joy, and he will be missed by his many readers and the many more people who got his ideas secondhand. Through his work, we got brief slivers of comprehension of a unfathomable time.
