I totally agree in regards to the point of the media telling everyone what is right and wrong, then "lionizing" some of the most base crap and people imaginable. The media and pushers of culture are some of the most disgusting people around as far as I can tell. Many of these people are rich liberals who think they know what is best. There is so much hypocrisy coming from this camp. I stay away from labels right now, so don't want to get into the liberal vs. conservative argument (especially since many self-labeled "conservatives" in the country are just as big pukes in their own way.) But I will say I very much enjoyed this article. I too have grown tired of being told what to think and believe by people that end up being so baseless in their being it is unbelievable. Learning and, more important, allowing myself to come to my own conclusions based on my own observations has been a great thing. Highly undervalued in this modern world of ours.

The left defines words, don't you know?
The rest of us understand words as what they always meant in the context of what they always meant.
But the left seems uncomfortable with that idea. They feel compelled to make words mean something quite different to their traditional meanings. Most often, the exact opposite.
This is part of what they mean when they drone on about "change".
The left has always equated words with actions and attitudes, anyway. They don't actually do very much, but yak yak yak.

Patriotism doesn't make any sense in that context. Patriotism why, and for what? Are we patriotic for imports from Bangladesh? As their values are integrated into the national value structure, does patriotism mean that we are patriotic for their values?

What is national identity? A common upbringing surrounded by the icons of US corporations?

Who defines what the values are that patriots are patriotic about?

How can the left be patriotic when their values are so different from those of the rest of the country?
