I thought that it was showing the products of Amerikan society. Fast food chains and folk who sport hairstyles because it expresses their ridiculous selfhood in a society that is meant to tolerate all no matter how weird and wrong. And maybe just for laughs too!

Succinct (considering the weighty topics addressed) summary of what this site is all about and what Mr. Stevens and others have been saying here for years. Nice to see it from a (is 'slightly' a fair adjective, here?) different perspective; it's a reminder that even though at times (such as the 2012 U.S. election period) the focus and application of a lot of these ideas are US-centric, there is always a lesson in them for almost anyone alive today.

You cannot really claim to to be opposed to the current dominant trends today, whichever modern state you find yourself in, and not have these ideas resonate with you. In a way, this is both disheartening in that the disease is everywhere, inescapable (as pointed out in this article), but also a positive point - it means that those who oppose it and wish to see a return to saner times have, essentially, a common enemy and can work together, where possible, to defeat it.

In regards to the corrupting effect of corrupt institutions:
In my experience, leftists tend to view humans as deterministic entities. The choice to remain virtuous is never wholly considered in their analysis. Thus the mantra "power corrupts." I think that the truth is the opposite "The corrupt seek power."
