Up until then children grew up with their parents, where they became adults because of their constant exposure to their parents. Now with the K-12 system, even within private education, children have to understand and fit into a society where other children will exercise control over the other children. No one acknowledges this fact and until they do, we will not have a complete understanding of childhood.
