Health Insurance companies are for profit businesses. For them to maximize profits and be successful it is in their interest to not insure people who actually need insurance, because these people are not profitable to insure. It is also in their interest to deny claims whenever possible because that makes more money for them.

I was recently having intense hand pain. I went to many doctors and ended up with physical therapy and no cure. My insurance company is denying my claim because my hand pain wasn't the direct effect of an injury that occurred.

I don't disagree that gov't is a bit of a fail machine, but I would still rather be insured in a way that my insurer isn't essentially gambling against me getting injured and then actively trying to deny my claims when they lose the bet.

I don't see how the bureaucracy of a gov't would be significantly worse than the bureaucracy of these insurance companies either.

From what I can tell, almost everyone who is happy with their insurance right now is only happy because they haven't really tried to use it in a way that was no longer profitable to their insurer.

What exactly is the bailout? A mode of responsibility? I think we can say that that everyone is incompetent and no one understands much and it's not socialism or beauracracy that is to be feared, but thinking we know things that just aren't so.

The fact is everyone thinks they "know" what is wrong with society and "know whats best for themselves" but the bailout proves that all human beings are terribly limited creatures, who attempt to justify dominance over others with the idea of "success in business and school means I am universally more competent and capable of seperating truth from falsehood then everyone else"

Which is of course the biggest bullshittery most americans believe in, success is the result of many factors beyond one's control (Genetics, where you are born, etc), all factors outside of your control.

Fact is people are assholes and don't really care about each other enough to set aside their selfishness, and those who do care worry about caring for others who don't deserve it.

Thank you for some welcome common sense. I fear that the non-exponentially-expanding group of self-sufficient, intelligent, responsible and tax-paying people is being swamped by the exponentially-increasing, public-funds-using, no tax-revenue generating, low-quality people. This is a BIG problem that requires huge tax increases on the dwindling percentage who actually create economic wealth. If we (the folks who made America great up through roughly the 1960's) don't wake up, this game is rapidly being lost and our children will probably emigrate if their parents haven't already.
