As a symbol of mankind - our approach to Global Warming is much like what is proposed to have caused it. Human Arrogance. Long ago, animals and plants magically grew and prospered without humans says, "Lets raise 100 head of cattle over here and plant corn over here."
In Masanobu Fukuoka's book "One Straw Revolution" he outlined how a more holistic approach to agriculture actually aids in preserving the environment, takes less work, and produces what we now call ORGANIC methods. The yields he was able to harvest in the 70's was equal to that of the highest producers in Japan using chemicals to kill the bugs, chemicals to fertilize, and tractors to plant, harvest, and plow.
There are many contradictions in the theories used to proport Global Warming, the most important in my mind can be seen in articles surrounding the "Year Without a Summer" in 1816. A volcanic erruption caused an apocolypic vision of freezing temperatures as far south as Pennsylvania during the month of July. If we truly are able to raise the global temperature, have no fear - we can chill it too. It seems that in nature this happens given enough toxic gas and particulate in the upper stratospheres. In the face of this evidence, why are we approaching the problem through reduction if it is believed we are in a historic and troubled time.
Also, if you are interested in historicals, the "Little Ice Age" caused by God only knows, but possibly solar, vocanic, or oceanic modifiers. in which there was again a trend toward global cooling.
Without shifting to far into hyperbole, there is ACTUAL evidence that particulate does cool the earth. So, if you think it is serious, take a serious action. It is already said that even if we stopped poluting today (which won't happen) we would not reverse the trend. We surely have the technology to increase particulate matter in the upper atmospheres, it just needs development, like the missle laser shield and all of that other clever stuff governments come up with in order to save us from "THE END OF THE WORLD".
But if it is a cycle, and there is SUBSTANTIAL evidence that it is, maybe a few of the high strung politicians looking for a cause that doesn't require actual action should have a stiff drink (I recommend Scotch) and take their Valium.
